Housekeeping team brings joy with toys

The housekeeping team at Worthing Hospital have been thanked by a local charity for donating Christmas gifts to Sussex families in need.

Throughout the year colleagues added a toy to their basket when they did their weekly shop and the team gathered the gifts together last week.

They were then sent on to local charity, Mothers Union (MU), an organisation that supports vulnerable and deprived families who are experiencing difficult times.

They have been involved with Worthing Hospital for 25 years, supporting the maternity department.

Gill Sorrell, Head of Domestics at Worthing, said: “The team wanted to give back to children this year. We decided to add a toy to our basket when we went shopping and found a charity to gift our toys to.

“Our staff have been amazing, one even brought a PlayStation! Now that we have a link with a team we will do the same at Easter with Easter eggs. We have been supported so much by the local community over recent times and we wanted to give back in some way.

“Although we can’t reach everyone, it is our way of saying thank you. We are hoping the gifts will bring a smile to someone’s face.”

Karen Hill, Diocesan President for Mothers Union, said: “Gill got in touch earlier this week and offered us all the toys that they had bought during the year.

“I just thought, ‘Wow!’ I can’t thank them enough. They toys are now being distributed to families in need in Sussex.”
