Healthcare assistant Lisa Belcher has won Star of the Month for her caring and compassionate commitment to one of her patients.
She was nominated by the patient’s daughter who was impressed by the care her mother received at Donald Wilson House at St Richard’s.
Winner Lisa said: “I know it sounds cheesy but I am doing something I love anyway! And I get paid to do it. To be recognised, I am very honoured and feel very proud. Thank you so much.”
Tomasina, the patient’s daughter, explained that following a stroke her mum had gone from being a fully independent lady to being totally reliant on others.
She said: “Lisa went above and beyond the call of duty in a respectful and compassionate manner, truly putting the Patient First.”
Tomasina’s mum, Jenny said: “I had an upset stomach and the washing machine here had broken so I was getting desperate, but Lisa quietly came in at the end of her shift and said I’m taking this washing away, it can go in my machine tonight and then I’ll tumble dry it, so I can bring it back to you tomorrow. It will be no problem!
“And she did. Quietly coming in and hanging it up with no fuss. Everything was beautifully folded and put away for me – she is a real angel of mercy.”
Ward Manager Shelton Bates presented Lisa with her certificate. He said: “You kept calm, you maintained respect, and allowed the patient to maintain her respect without any fuss at all.
“You went above and beyond what is necessary for your role and I am really proud and happy that it was acknowledged.”
If you know someone that has gone above and beyond for their patients, why not nominate them for a STAR award? Nominations close on Friday 18 February.
