Biography

Dr. David Neal was appointed as a Consultant Emergency Physician at St. Richard’s Hospital in 2006 after Specialist Registrar training in the South Thames region, where he worked at King’s College Hospital, St. George’s Hospital & Kingston Hospital. He successfully obtained his FRCEM qualification in 2006.  

David has a particular interest in the supervision and teaching of Junior Doctors, which he enthusiastically does in addition to his clinical work, and was appointed to the role of College Tutor for Emergency Medicine at St. Richard’s in 2021. David has taught on many ALS, ATLS and APLS courses over the years, including being a regular Medical Director on ALS courses at St. Richard’s Hospital.  

David originally qualified from the Medical School at Manchester University in 1994. He first pursued Basic Surgical Training, which included a year demonstrating Anatomy at the University of Liverpool, and had his first experience of Emergency Medicine in Bristol. After successfully passing the FRCS Surgical qualification in 1999 David had a career break for 6 months including sailing in Australia. He then worked a year in New Zealand in Emergency Medicine and Paediatrics, where he obtained a Diploma In Child Health and enjoyed the outdoor lifestyle living on a surfing beach. He returned to the UK in 2001 and has worked in Emergency Medicine continuously ever since.  

David enjoys living with his family in Chichester, being both close to the sea and the South Downs. In his free time he enjoys cycling and mountain biking, playing tennis and the occasional round of golf. He also likes to learn both Spanish and Italian.
