Biography

Dr Simon N. T. Murphy qualified summa cum laude from the University of Pretoria in 1993 and has gone on to work in South Africa, France, Tasmania and the United Kingdom.

He is the first consultant in the UK to be awarded dual accreditation in General Internal Medicine and the new specialty of Acute Internal Medicine in January 2007 and was subsequently made a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians in May 2015. His special interests include venous thromboembolic disease, having chaired the Thrombosis Committee in BSUH and co chaired the Thrombosis Committee in WSHT and has a number of publications in the field that have been presented at National and International Conferences. He also specialises in diagnostic upper gastrointestinal endoscopy, having performed over 3,300 procedures to date.

He is a GMC registered educational supervisor and has an additional role serving as the Worthing Hospital clinical tutor, where he has management oversight of the training of junior doctors and serves as a mentor to medical students at Brighton and Sussex Medical School.

He has a passion for medical teaching and is regularly invited to speak to all grades from students to consultants, covering a wide range of topics, both clinical and non-clinical.
