The Health Information Point (HIP) is a free and confidential health information service for all patients, visitors of patients and hospital staff and volunteers at the Royal Sussex County Hospital.
What is provided at the Health Information Point?
- Guided internet access for health-related queries.
- Expert advice on finding high-quality health information and improving health literacy.
- Information leaflets from UHSussex and external health organisations.
- General information on healthy living, as well as medical conditions, treatments, tests and medicines.
- Health promotion and national awareness events.
- Signposting to local support services and self-help groups.
Who is it for?
The health information point is for patients at UHSussex and their carers who need further information about conditions or treatments.
How will they be referred?
Clinical colleagues are encouraged to refer patients for support with finding high-quality health information.
Enquiries can also be made by patients and visitors waiting in the reception area or passing through the entrance hall.
Who provides this information?
The HIP will be staffed by patient education knowledge specialists with expertise in health information enquiries.
When is the Health Information Point open?
The HIP is open on Monday to Friday between 10.00am to 5.00pm.
Where is it located?
Behind the main reception desk on the ground floor of the Louisa Martindale Building.
How to contact the patient education team?
The team can also be contacted in person at the HIP.
What info is needed in the referral?
Please ask patients to either visit the HIP during opening hours or contact the team by email or phone.

Will HIP be available at our other sites?
If our HIP pilot scheme is successful, we would hope to bid for additional funds to replicate the HIP at other UHSussex sites.
