What is KnowledgeShare?
KnowledgeShare is a web-based platform designed to make NHS library and knowledge services easily accessible to staff and students. It brings together a number of key functions to support evidence-based practice and professional development:
- Evidence Updates: Delivers regular, personalised updates aligned to individual professional interests. Subject-specific bulletins and journal table-of-contents alerts are also available options.
- Evidence Searches: Manages evidence search requests, records search strategies, removes duplicate results, and generates standardised reports. Results can be shared with others with similar interests, and feedback can be captured from users.
- Skills Sessions: Supports the administration of training sessions, distribution of learning materials and generation of attendance certificates.
- Statistics: Provides reporting on service activity, including evidence searching, training delivery, and evidence update provision.
Targeted Evidence Updates
KnowledgeShare delivers personalised evidence updates tailored to each user’s professional interests. Members receive concise updates at a frequency they select, based on a profile that includes relevant conditions or lifestyle factors, age groups, settings of care, interventions and management topics.
Each member is designated an Assigned Librarian, ensuring a direct connection to the local knowledge and library team. Updates prioritise high-quality evidence, management and education resources, and relevant professional development opportunities.
The service is designed to keep staff informed without overwhelming them. Content is curated from over 160 trusted publications and websites, with ongoing expansion—most recently in areas such as mental health.
Teams may also opt to include their own local resources, such as events, training sessions and physical/ intranet-based resources.
Collaboration and knowledge sharing
KnowledgeShare enables collaboration across NHS library and knowledge services, helping to reduce duplication of effort and extend the reach of evidence. Evidence searches that are categorised can be accessed by searchers across the country.
Approximately 130 library teams currently use the platform, supporting more than 360 healthcare organisations, including hospitals, community services, mental health providers, public health teams, and Integrated Care Boards.
Over 97,500 NHS staff access services through KnowledgeShare, with significant ongoing growth in membership.

Future Plans
KnowledgeShare is continually evolving to enhance user experience and service delivery. Recent developments include a fully mobile-responsive interface and a dedicated support portal, offering a comprehensive knowledge base, access to training resources, and a direct point of contact with the KnowledgeShare team.
Over the coming year, we will introduce a self-service reporting function, enabling teams to access their own service statistics. We also plan to expand journal coverage for indexing and table-of-contents alerts. In addition, the Evidence Updates module will undergo significant enhancement, with the integration of appropriate AI tools to support users within the interface.
