KnowledgeShare is a web application that makes NHS library and knowledge services more accessible to staff and students. It allows library and knowledge services to:
- Manage requests for evidence searches, de-duplicate results, and share the results of searches more widely.
- Run information skills teaching sessions and give participants the opportunity to book, cancel bookings, download course materials and generate certificates of attendance.
- Provide regular, targeted, personalised evidence updates to staff, based on specific professional interests. Subject-specific bulletins and journal table-of-contents (TOC) alerts can also be produced.
- Report on searching, teaching and provision of evidence updates.

As well as providing access to evidence search services and information skills teaching, KnowledgeShare provides targeted evidence updates via email to NHS staff. These are individualised based on a staff member’s interest in particular conditions or lifestyle factors, age groups, settings of care, interventions and management topics.
KnowledgeShare informs staff about new evidence that matters, focusing on high-level evidence, publications on management and educational topics, and local professional development events. KnowledgeShare keeps you up to date without overwhelming you with information.
We have recently increased our content in the areas of allied health, including psychology, and will continue to expand our coverage as more teams join the scheme. A full list of resources currently included on KnowledgeShare is shown as an appendix.

As more library and knowledge services join KnowledgeShare it becomes more powerful for reducing library staff workload, sharing evidence and generating communities of practice.
Around 130 library teams are currently using the system to provide services to over 450 health care organisations, including hospitals, community services, mental health, public health and ICBs. The number of teams using the system continues to increase year-on-year.
90,000 NHS staff receive services through KnowledgeShare with 17,200 joining in 2024.

KnowledgeShare is always developing and improving. We have recently upgraded our evidence search functionality to include de-duplication of search results and better RIS inputting. Over the next year we will upgrade the user interface to be more accessible on mobile devices, increase the range of journals available for table of contents alerts, and integrate further with the NHS link resolver.
We have recently made it easier for library and knowledge service staff to collaborate across integrated care systems, and we aim to introduce a full and flexible reporting module during 2025.
