Biography
Dr Valerio Di Nicola M.D, PhD, FRCS, was born in Rome, Italy and graduated in Medicine in 1989.
From 1989 to 1999 he worked at Sapienza University-Policlinico Umberto I, Rome first as Specialty Trainee (ST) during his General Surgery Specialization programme and then, during his PhD in Microsurgery, he worked as Researcher and Academic. Specifically, he was involved in research on Connective Tissue Regeneration activating residential MSCs through jellified nucleotides (Pdrn), Heat Shock Proteins HSPs (HSPs) and Growth Factors (GFs).
In the next years, he improved his skills in Laparoscopic and Minimally Invasive surgical procedures (Fellowship of ACOI, Italian Surgeons Association). Afterwards, he developed his knowledge in Colorectal surgery with a Fellowship in “Minimally Invasive and Open Surgery in Colorectal Cancer”.
In 2009 he achieved a Master in Coloproctology at Sapienza University-Policlinico Umberto I Rome.
From 2006 to January 2010, he was Lead Consultant of the General Surgery Department at San Marco Hospital in Latina, Italy.
From February 2010 he was a Consultant in General and Colorectal Surgery at the Israelite Hospital of Rome.
From November 2010 to June 2013, he worked as a Consultant in General, Emergency and Trauma Surgery at the Aurelia Hospital- Rome (DEA I).
From May 2013 to June 2015, he was Scientific Director of the Interbion Foundation for Basic Biomedical Research. Montedato, CH-6595 Riazzino, Switzerland.
From July 2013 to October 2017, he worked at Noble’s Hospital, Isle of Man (UK), in the General Surgery Department, as a Consultant in General and Colorectal Surgery. A core member of the Colorectal and Upper-GI MDTs. Since June 2015 he was the Lead of the Surgical Educational programme, managing the Surgical Teaching meetings and the Mortality & Morbidity meetings.
In December 2015 he was appointed at Noble’s Hospital, Lead of the Paediatric Surgery.
In July 2017 he was appointed Consultant in General, Emergency and Lower GI Surgery at University Hospitals Sussex (UHSussex), NHS Foundation Trust. Worthing Hospital (UK).
From February 2018 to November 2018, he was the clinical Lead of the Day Surgery service at Southlands Hospital, University Hospitals Sussex, NHS Foundation Trust (UK).
In December 2018 he was recognised privileges to work privately at BMI Goring Hall Hospital, Worthing (UK). Since May 2020 he was appointed Lead of Research and surgical Audit at University Hospitals Sussex (UHSussex), NHS Foundation Trust. Worthing Hospital (UK).
Since June 2020, he has been in charge as Scientific Director of the Regenerative Surgery Unit (RSU), Villa Aurora Hospital-Foligno (Italy).
