I have always been interested in conditions around the hip. I was initially amazed by how well some patients did after a hip operation. When I started as a hip surgeon, there were really only 2 operations that surgeons could offer – hip replacement, and revision hip replacement. These could have very variable results, with some patients doing very well, whereas some patients deteriorated. This sparked my interest, as to why some did well and some got worse. I have always tried to get the best outcomes for my patients.
During my career, we have learnt how to manage the hip joint better – both the bone and the muscle. I have tried to be at the forefront of technology, whilst using the best evidence and reliable methods. I enjoy teaching, and run national and international courses in hip surgery. I use muscle sparing approaches to do my hip replacements. I receive referrals from other hip surgeons from around the region for more complex patients.
