Mr. Robert Grounds (MBBCh, BSc, MEd, MRCS, FRCS) is a Consultant ENT Surgeon with additional specialist training in ear conditions at University Hospitals Sussex NHS Foundation Trust (Brighton, Worthing and Haywards Heath).
Ranking as one of the top ear surgeons in the country at the end of training he was awarded the TWJ Prize to gain international experience in the most complex ear, hearing and balance surgeries.
He offers advanced care for complex ear, hearing and balance issues. As a researcher, he has published widely and teaches ENT resident doctors, emphasizing compassionate care rooted in personal experience.
As a child he underwent extensive ear surgery himself and in his personal life he is a classically trained musician having performed alongside multiple major music artists. This gives him an understanding of how ear diseases and hearing loss can affect patients and impact their quality of life.
His practice incorporates all ENT conditions for both adults and children (paediatric training at Great Ormond Street Hospital), but his special interest is in ear conditions (Otology) including:
- Hearing loss
- Ear infections
- Implantable hearing aids
- Balance conditions
- Tumours of the ear/ balance organs
- Tinnitus
- Cholesteatoma
Fellowship training in Otology, Lateral Skull Base Surgery and Auditory Implants
Following completion of training (CCT) to become a Consultant ENT Surgeon, Mr Grounds completed additional training (Fellowship, TWJ Prize Winner 2021, Vancouver Canada) in Ear Surgery and Lateral Skull Base surgery. As a specialist he accepts referrals both directly from GPs who are concerned about complex ear conditions and also from other ENT Doctors wishing for tertiary level care of complex ear conditions beyond the remit of routine ENT clinics. He sits with the specialist panels in the hospital (MDT) for Hearing Implants and Lateral Skull Base surgery (disorders at the interface of the ears, brain and balance system) to discuss and treat the most complex ear cases.
