Professors Lisa Holmes and Chris Pepper will be sharing their experience of developing grant applications.
Lisa will share her experience of the development of mixed-methods, inter-disciplinary proposals, drawing on her learning from both successful and unsuccessful applications. Chris will focus on lessons learnt from lab-based and pre-clinical grant applications submitted to MRC, Bloodwise, Wellcome trust and Blood Cancer UK.
Lisa Holmes is Professor of Applied Social Science based in the School of Education Social Work. She is a mixed-methods researcher and has carried out a range of research and evaluation projects over the past twenty-four years, focused predominantly in the field of child welfare. Lisa has been awarded grants from a range of funders throughout her career, including UKRI, government departments and philanthropic trusts.
Professor Chris Pepper is the RM Phillips Chair in Experimental Medicine and Director of Research and Knowledge Exchange at BSMS. His research career has been primarily focused on one disease, chronic lymphocytic leukaemia (CLL). He has published more than 100 research papers, as well as numerous reviews and editorials, and has consistently secured grant funding from major sources including Leukaemia & Lymphoma Research (now Bloodwise), Cancer Research UK and the Association of International Cancer Research.
