If you are a healthcare professional that does not currently work in research but would like the opportunity to gain hands-on research experience, then the NIHR Associate Principal Investigator (PI) scheme could be for you!
This is a six month in-work training opportunity, providing practical experience for healthcare professionals starting their research career.
You would be assigned to a study currently being delivered on the NIHR national portfolio, for example a multi-centre randomised controlled trial.
If you successfully complete the scheme, you will receive your Associate PI status endorsed by the NIHR and Royal Colleges. This accolade can be added to your CV and supports your CPD.
We are currently looking for medical clinicians to join the Associate PI scheme for the following studies:
Recovery is an international clinical trial identifying treatments that may be beneficial for people hospitalised with pneumonia. We are looking for a medical professional that will be based on either Byworth ward or the Emergency Floor at Worthing Hospital that would be interested in undertaking the associate PI scheme for RECOVERY. The individual will assist with screening, recruitment and consenting for RECOVERY and once they have completed the 6 month scheme will be endorsed as an associate PI by NIHR.
POP-I is a surgical trial run by Nottingham Clinical Trials Unit (NCTU) which aims to recruit patients who develop anaemia after hip fracture surgery. We are looking for a medical professional based at Worthing Hospital that has an interest in trauma and orthopaedics to undertake the 6-month associate PI scheme for POP-I. The individual will assist with screening, eligibility checking, recruitment and consenting of appropriate individuals on Broadwater ward at Worthing Hospital.
