Information disclosed:
The Trust’s patient administration system records patient treatment using both the ICD-10 coding system which identifies specific conditions, and the OPCS Classification of Interventions and Procedures which identifies specific procedures. We have provided the coding and definitions relevant to our data for reference.
1. Please see the table below for information relevant to this part of your request. This information is based on OPCS procedural code M479 (Urethral catheterisation of bladder).
Year | Number of Patients |
2023 | 4675 |
2022 | 4552 |
2021 | 4157 |
2. Please see the table below for information relevant to this part of your request. This information is based on ICD-10 condition code T835 (Infection and inflammatory reaction due to prosthetic device, implant or graft in urinary system).
Year | Number of Patients |
2023 | 633 |
2022 | 647 |
2021 | 468 |
3. Please see the table below for information relevant to this part of your request. This information is based on ICD-10 condition code N390 (Urinary tract infection, site not specified).
Year | Number of Patients |
2023 | 6509 |
2022 | 6505 |

4. We have not calculated the total cost of urinary tract infections for these periods, and such costs are not specifically coded in this way on our financial systems.
This information is not held by the Trust and therefore not available under the terms of the Act at this time.
5-7. The data available on our pharmacy administration systems does not link prescribing to urinary tract infections specifically, nor does the Trust have an electronic patient record system that would facilitate this type of reporting. Any attempt to compile data in the format you are seeking would require the manual audit of all relevant patient records cross-referenced with data held on our administration systems, which would require an unreasonable level of staff resources to complete.
Section 12 provision [cost limit] of the FOIA is applicable at this time.
