Artisan pastas, homemade sauces, and Italian style pizzas has arrived for staff and visitors at Worthing Hospital and soon at St Richard’s Hospital, in Chichester.
Peabodys Coffee won a five-year contract earlier this year to run the restaurants in each hospital, they are currently finalising their refurbishment of the Chichester facility.
Worthing’s restaurant opened Monday 18 November with a fresh look, with St Richard’s to follow soon after with a phased opening over the Christmas period.
Commercial director, Alison Ingoe. said: “We’re sorry it has taken longer than anticipated to reopen the restaurants under Peabody’s management and wish to thank everyone for their patience over the past few months.
“The new restaurants will include coffee shops serving hot and cold drinks, sandwiches, salads and sweet treats in a grab and go style, as well as Peabody’s signature ‘Red Basil’ hot food counter offering freshly made pasta, home-made pizza, hearty soups, and wholesome stews.
“They’ll also open later than the previous restaurants, until 8pm on weekdays and 6pm at weekends. Plus, they plan to introduce a Click and Collect service to help staff avoid queuing at busy times.”
Peabodys has a long history of meeting the needs of NHS staff and visitors, having first started serving coffee and freshly prepared food in London hospitals nearly 30 years ago.
Last year, the company opened their first outlet with University Hospitals Sussex in the main atrium of the new Louisa Martindale Building at Royal Sussex County Hospital, Brighton – which has proved very popular with visitors and staff.
A second, larger Peabodys ‘Red Basil’ restaurant is planned for Level 6 next year, once approval from the Building Safety Regulator has been received.
The refurbishment of the restaurants in Worthing and Chichester also includes the creation of dedicated staff only areas that will be accessible 24 hours a day.
