Friday March 1st saw the Disability Awareness Conference held at the Louisa Martindale Building, RSCH.
In today’s digitally driven era, it’s easy to underestimate the value of an in-person event.
This was organised by the Disabled Staff Network and open to all staff across UHSussex.
Conference attendees had the opportunity to listen to speakers from a variety of organisations, including Kim Hoque (Lead of the Disability Employment Charter), Stuart Moore (NHS & Genius Within) as well as attending Breakout sessions.
Breakout sessions can be invaluable in deepening your understanding and updating your skill set, these included:
- Health & Wellbeing (Mental Health)
- Health Passport and Reasonable Adjustments
- Lived experience and active bystander/allyship
- Team Dominica
- RNID
- Voluntary Services
- Sight Loss Council
Sam Scott, our Library Assistant at St Richard’s Hospital in Chichester, was there from Knowledge and Libraries, assisted by Bev Tolley from the Royal Sussex County Hospital Library. Sam had a display stand and gave away over one hundred User Guides, Patient information Leaflets and QR code sheets to attendees. She also had the opportunity to showcase our services to individuals from our hospitals, providing lots of information from how QR codes work to requesting a book online from our libraries.
Looking forward to the next conference in 2025!
