UHSussex Housekeeper Clementina has been awarded Star of the Month for August after a patient’s relative witnessed her attention to detail during a visit to Royal Sussex County Hospital’s A&E department.
Clementina Santofimio Gonzalez was nominated by the relative who was impressed with her work ethic, her interactions with staff and patients, and her calm approach as she cleaned the department during a busy period.
The relative’s nomination said: “The department was full of patients, staff, associated staff, and equipment. (Clementina) took every opportunity she could to get into crowded spaces to clean. She was scrupulous in her attention to detail, her work ethic and general demeanour.
“I wish to nominate her for her diligence, work ethic and calmness in chaos. She was amazing, polite to staff patients and visitors”.
The relative noted that Clementina, who responded immediately when they notified her supplies needed replacing in the visitor’s toilet, deserves every praise for her contribution.
Clementina was awarded Star of the Month during a surprise presentation by Director of Facilities and Estates David McLaughlin and was surrounded by her team, including line manager Antoinette Thomas.
Clementina said: “I feel really proud to be part of an amazing team who work to the best standards, while following the Trust’s values, vision and mission.
“It is important to take special care and attention, but it is just as important to make a difference to a patient’s and families’ experience with a happy face, friendly approach and good service.”
David said: “It is not just about how we treat people clinically. Our housekeeping team play a really key role.
“Clementina’s efforts show that she has made a difference in a really positive way, and she should be proud of her achievements and recognition.”
Antoinette added: “We have received so many plaudits and feedback from patients and staff about Clementina’s dedication and commitment.
“Her attention to detail is incredible and she is always coming up with ideas and ways to help out.
“It’s not just about the work she achieves, it’s about her bubbly personality, friendliness and kindness.”
