Midwife Fran Humberstone really did put her patient first, winning her the Star of the Month award for October.
Fran, now the infant feeding lead for Worthing and St Richard’s, recently stepped back into her midwifery role to care for a woman she had previously looked after.
“Fran is a person with pure heart,” said the mother-to-be in her nomination, “and should be a role model for anyone in healthcare.”
“She swapped her rota after my daughter’s stillbirth to care for me in the hospital. She came and visited me during her lunch break after she found out my daughter had died. She continued to visit me for a year after.
“And although she changed her role, she still took me under her wing, at my request, as a midwife during my current pregnancy to give me a continuation of care.
“She is simply the most caring health care provider I have ever experienced.”
Fran, who has been with the trust for five years, received her certificate to a round of applause from colleagues at St Richard’s. She said: “I am so grateful that you have all taken the time to be here with me today, it’s all so surreal but much appreciated. Thank you so much!”
Chief operating officer, Gethin Hughes, presented Fran with her prize, saying: “I am absolutely delighted to be able to award you Star of the Month, it is well deserved.”
October’s runners up are:
- Dorota ‘Dot’ Deleka – food service assistant at St Richard’s who was put forward for her dedication to her patients and keeping ward staff hydrated
- Gordon Prestell – RSCH ward manager, nominated for his outstanding management and for the support he provides to his team
They each receive a £25 gift voucher and all nominees are sent a congratulations Star of the Month postcard. Every month, the winner receives a £100 gift voucher. If you know someone who has gone above and beyond, why not nominate them for the next Star of the Month?
