The Library at Mill View Hospital has fully re-opened as a place for work and study – we were closed for several weeks over the summer to provide a temporary workspace for the East Brighton Community Mental Health team.
We have made several service improvements since the summer:
Library access
The Sussex Education Centre, including the Library, is now on a Paxton ID card access system. If you have a Sussex Partnership work ID card, this should give you access to the Sussex Education Centre main entrance and the first floor where the Library is located – make sure you bring it with you when you visit.
If you do not have a Sussex Partnership work ID card (that is, if you work for UHSussex, Sussex Community, or another external partner organisation, or if you are a BSMS student) you can arrange to borrow an access card from the Library.
PLEASE NOTE: the Library is not always staffed every day so please check with us before you visit. You can contact us to collect an access card by calling 0300 303 0116 or email us.
Extended access hours
While we are usually staffed 9.30am-5.30pm, Monday – Friday, the new id card access system enables us to provide extended Library access outside these hours. Once you’re on the first floor, the Library door is never locked, so if you need somewhere quiet to work or study, you can come in even when Library staff are not here.
You asked – we listened!
Following conversations with you, our users, we have made several additional improvements to the Library itself:
- A height-adjustable desk, suitable for wheelchair users
- Improved physical access around the Library
- Additional power points, data points and docking stations for more flexible working
- Two new workstations, bringing the total to twelve
- New computer chairs
- A new, improved self-service kiosk to enable you to borrow and return Library books, even when Library staff are not here
