There are more than 2,000 members of the Facilities and Estates Team at University Hospitals Sussex NHS Foundation Trust, who collectively play a crucial role in creating a safe, clean and comfortable environment for colleagues, patients and visitors.
Today, on the second National Healthcare Estates and Facilities Day, we break down the roles within Facilities and Estates and highlight the key areas of support they provide across our services.

Thank you
It has been another incredibly busy year for Facilities and Estates. From working round the clock to ensure the Louisa Martindale Building was ready to open its doors to the public this month, to transferring Princess Royal and the Royal Sussex County hospitals laundry services into the new state-of-the-art laundry facility, which opened at St Richard’s Hospital last autumn.
Trevor Fitzgerald, Director of Facilities and Estates who joined the Trust in January this year, takes a moment to recognise the continued efforts of his colleagues and some of the milestone moments achieved this past year.
Stars of the year
The hard work and dedication of Facilities and Estates was also recognised in the nominations received for our Patient First STAR Awards, which takes place on Friday (23 June). Shortlisted nominees fall under the Star of the Year category and include:
