In January, it was confirmed that Brighton 3Ts stages 2 and 3 – which are the plans for a new cancer centre and logistics yard at Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton – are in Wave 1 of the revised New Hospitals Programme national building schedule.
This welcome news confirmed the multi-million pound redevelopment of the Barry Building site on the south west corner of the hospital campus remains on track, with construction scheduled to begin in 2026 and the cancer centre opening for patients in 2029.
A planning amendment application was submitted last October and Brighton and Hove City Council planning committee are due to discuss and determine the plans soon. Members of the public are welcome to leave a comment on the council planning portal, either in support or objection to the plans for a new Sussex Cancer Centre and logistics yard for the hospital.
In April, a 40-week work programme of site enablement works will begin to prepare for construction of the new five-storey Sussex Cancer Centre. The plans also include the creation of a new public realm to be situated off Eastern Road between the Louisa Martindale Building and new Sussex Cancer Centre.
