The pelvic health physiotherapy team has launched their Wellbeing and Exercise in Pregnancy Programme (WEPP) on social media, marking a new milestone for the award-winning initiative.
Created by pelvic health physiotherapists at University Hospitals Sussex and funded by Sussex Local Maternity and Neonatal System (Sussex LMNS), WEPP offers easy access to safe and effective exercise videos and useful resources during and after pregnancy.
The programme offers online resources, and a wide range of exercise videos designed to support pregnant women and people of all abilities through their pregnancy and postnatal journeys, encouraging people to stay fit and healthy during these critical periods.
Andrea Yeboah-Regis, physiotherapist and WEPP Project Lead said: “We know that even though pregnancy is a wonderful time, it can take its toll both mentally and physically on the body. With WEPP, we can support and inspire pregnant women and people to enjoy exercise and access the right information to inform them about pregnancy and postnatal related topics.
“We have been so lucky to be able to establish this programme thanks to the LMNS and because we are housed on their website which provides a vast amount of additional information, we can provide a one-stop shop for pregnant and postnatal women and people.”
To expand their outreach, the team launched the programme on social media and celebrated by hosting a stand in the Penguin Foyer at Worthing Hospital. The event helped the team to connect with the local community and explore how their social media presence can reach and support more people across Sussex.
Georgia O’Driscoll, physiotherapist and social media lead for WEPP said: “We have had plans to launch WEPP on social media for some time. We are really excited about this initiative which will enable us to reach more people with our digital presence and help them to achieve their wellbeing goals. We will have monthly challenges and interesting facts about the pregnancy and postnatal period and hope that we will be able to attract lots of new users!”
Bella d’Almeida, creative director and lead for the perinatal pelvic health service (to which WEPP is aligned), added: “This is a fantastic time for pelvic health. Sussex has been one of the first areas to launch national initiatives with the support of Sussex LMNS and we intend to continue to optimise care for women and people across the ages.”
