It’s a time of celebration at Princess Royal Hospital (PRH) as our new Ambulatory Clinical Decision Unit (ACDU) has successfully treated over 15,000 patients!
This impressive number marks a significant achievement since the unit’s launch in March 2023. In honour of this milestone, the Emergency Medicine Team received a token of appreciation in the form of a cake from the Trust’s Chief Executive, George Findlay. His gesture was accompanied by heartfelt thanks for the team’s exceptional commitment and tireless efforts in elevating patient care standards.
Chris Ashcroft, Hospital Director for PRH was also in attendance and said:
“The Emergency Department Team have worked extremely hard implementing new and innovative ways of providing safer care for our patients. I’m extremely proud of their efforts, having treated over 15,000 patients since opening our new Ambulatory Clinical Decision Unit in March 2023, this is a milestone worth celebrating for the department and everyone involved.”
The ACDU is a short stay unit for patients that are initially seen in A&E and need more clinical care but do not need to be admitted to hospital. It has increased the efficiency of our emergency department, providing a smoother patient journey and enabling our medical staff to dedicate their focus to the most critically ill patients.
Furthering their commitment to innovation, the Emergency Medicine Team have also successfully piloted an urgent treatment centre and launched a rapid assessment and treatment service. These advancements have significantly reduced wait times and improved the safety of patient care.
