April is Stress Awareness Month and this event has been held every April since 1992. The aim is to increase public awareness of causes and solutions for our modern stress epidemic.
The theme this year from the Stress Management Society is ‘Little By Little’ (#LittleByLittle) which highlights the impact of consistent, small positive actions on your wellbeing. However small the steps you take each day these can yield significant improvements in mental health over time.
Small actions to make big changes:
- Connect with someone – are they OK? Are you OK?
- Prioritise sleep – improve your bedtime routine
- Move in your own way – run, walk, do yoga, gardening or stretch
- Spend time in nature – step outside for fresh air and stimulate your senses
- Breathe deep – to help with stress reduction and relaxation
- Practice mindfulness – focus on the here and now
Take the opportunity this month for an open conversation on the impact of stress. Talk to friends, colleagues, family, and professionals about your experiences of stress and its effects.
We have a wide collection of resources to inform and help with stress and related challenges to mental health, both for you and your service users.
