The Association for the Study of Medical Education (ASME) held their Annual Scholarship Meeting (ASM) in July, this year at Warwick University with the theme Your Key to Maximising Potential. This three-day international conference packed in over 500 attendees for 325 presentations across 67 sessions spanning the full spectrum of health professions education (HPE).
Tim Vincent (Senior Learning Technologist) joined the conference in his capacity as the current Chair of the TEL Special Interest Group and as a co-facilitator of a workshop. The TEL SIG offers a dual prize for outstanding digital education scholarship which required the team to attend and assess 20 presentations. Tim says: “It’s quite a challenge to get to all these sessions in a packed programme! But it is interesting to hear about the range of education research happening across digital initiatives.” This year’s two prizes went to a group from Leicester looking at the credibility of AI-generated learning resources and to a group from Newcastle demonstrating the feasibility of live-streaming real teaching clinics to facilitated classrooms.
Tim also joined colleagues from Warwick and Leicester medical schools to run a workshop titled ‘Beyond Blended: Challenges and transformations – a paradigm shift in medical education’ which took participants on a journey through a six-step framework for identifying practical ways of implementing blended learning initiatives in their own practice. “As always, it was encouraging to discuss real-life practice with fellow educators in-person and to help develop our practice for future healthcare professionals.” Tim recommends any colleagues with education initiatives or research output consider submitting to ASME ASM July 2025 when submissions open later this year.
