I have been a registered nurse for 30 years and in that time have worked in clinical care, regulation and a series of nursing leadership roles. Last year I returned to clinical practice in the Emergency Department at the Royal Sussex County Hospital (RSCH) and remain as passionate about excellence in patient care as I did when I first began training.
I know great care can never be achieved without staff of all grades and job roles having a strong voice that can be heard at the most senior levels and as the staff representative Governor for RSCH I commit to do that for you. I have previously led diverse clinical and non-clinical services and believe I can give a rounded view that goes beyond the boundaries of nursing or emergency care.
I will commit to finding ways to engage with people across the hospital to ensure I listen to what is important to all of us; this will guide my role on the Council. I know that the best outcomes are achieved by working together and driving improvement as a team and I would work positively and constructively within the Council and with the Trust Board on your behalf.
The creation of UHS is a fantastic opportunity and the RSCH team must be a cornerstone in how that develops. My previous leadership experience blended now with being part of a direct patient facing team within the hospital will provide you with that strong voice that is rooted in the everyday experiences of us all.
