Andy Hobart joined the UH Sussex Board in June 2026 following a career spanning more than 35 years, including the past seven years as a senior civil servant and three decades leading large, private sector organisations.
Most recently, Andy served as Chief Project Delivery Officer and Commercial Director for the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government (MHCLG), where amongst other responsibilities he oversaw their portfolio of major delivery programmes. His Civil Service career included a period as MHCLG’s Director General and Chief Financial Officer. Andy brings to Sussex extensive Non-Executive experience having served on the Boards of Homes England and Orbit Group.
Prior to the Civil Service, Andy held a number of senior executive roles in major UK blue chip companies, including Division Managing Director positions with Wates Group, Balfour Beatty, Rentokil Initial and RAC. His career has been characterised by leading transformation and growth in large, people intensive service businesses including the successful delivery and integration of more than 50 acquisitions across UK, Europe, Africa and North America.
Alongside this Board role, Andy is a Non-Executive Director of QEII Conference Centre. Andy holds an MBA from Harvard Business School and an MA in Engineering Science from the University of Oxford. He lives on the South Coast and enjoys rugby, cricket, tennis, cycling and singing
