You could say that Healthcare is in my DNA. My career as a Biomedical Scientist spanned over 30 years, working across a large multi-site Hospital Trust in London. Those years were intensive, busy and demanding, and after retiring and moving to West Sussex, I continue to work within the NHS as a volunteer at Worthing Hospital.
I have extensive experience as a trustee in a large national charity, well acquainted with governance and accountability, strategic planning and liaison with stakeholders to understand feelings and attitudes to the future of their organisation. As a public governor, I would have the opportunity to use my knowledge and skills in a role where I would be part of the accountability process and governance of the trust, assessing the community response to strategic planning and decision making. So often people think that plans are made which do not reflect their own realities and being able to bring the views of communities directly into discussions must reassure and promote honest opinions.
I am a good communicator, and part of the role of a governor is to ensure that all voices are heard, allowing a wide view to be given on a range of issues, and to encourage effective and appropriate communication between the trust’s members and the Council of Governors as they plan and develop the ongoing strategy to achieve the best quality healthcare for our trust. I offer my knowledge, skills, and commitment to this role as I have done throughout my NHS career.
