Professor Katie Urch joined UHSussex in April 2023 as Chief Medical Officer (CMO).
Prior to this, she worked at Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust, where she assumed management roles in oncology as the Trust lead for cancer, and latterly worked as the divisional director of surgery, cancer and cardiovascular services.
Katie trained in palliative medicine, and went on to complete a PhD in neural pain pathways. Her post-doctoral work included establishing a bone pain model and demonstrating effective pain management for the first time. Her interest in linking the theoretical or complex care systems into patient care has remained core to her clinical work at Royal Marsden, Royal Brompton and then for 20 years at Imperial.
