Frances McCabe

I have been a public Governor for Brighton and Hove for 4 years and I focus on the Royal Sussex County Hospital. During this time, the Louisa Martindale Building has been opened with a state of the art environment, the spade has gone in the ground for a new Cancer Hospital, new wards have been created to relieve pressure on A and E and a much needed new emergency department is under way. I make it my business to talk to as many patients as possible for feedback and do walkarounds on a weekly basis. Experience of care is good, staff are committed but waiting is still a problem: both for treatment and in A and E. I maintain an interest in end of life care. I chair a Governors’ Committee on patient experience and involvement of the wider community.

Prior to being a Governor, I was Chair of Healthwatch and before that of Age UK Brighton and Hove so I have an extensive knowledge of health and care needs in the city and statutory and community networks. I started working life
as a nurse and health visitor, and later managed social services departments and I am very committed to integrated services across health and care.  I live in Brighton and so do my family and friends and remain committed to using the privileged role of Governor to improve services.
