Professor Jackie Cassell joined the Trust Board in April 2021. Jackie studied medical sciences and English literature at the University of Cambridge, then completed her medical degree at the University of Oxford. She worked as a junior doctor in North Wales and East London before training as a specialist in genitourinary medicine (sexually transmitted infections and HIV) and in public health medicine in London.
While completing specialist medical training in London, Jackie was Chief Investigator for studies in sexual health and electronic health records. Jackie is Deputy Dean at Brighton and Sussex Medical School and has held the roles of Director of Research and Knowledge Exchange and Head of the Department of Primary Care and Public Health.
Jackie has led a programme of research in contact tracing for sexually transmitted infections, working with colleagues at University College London (where she has been Visiting Professor) and Public Health England.
