Mr Mirza Khurrum Baig is working as general and colorectal surgeon at Worthing hospital for over 20 years with vast experience in teaching leadership and research. Mr Baig has been actively involved throughout his career in doing research and has participated and published in both clinical and non-clinical research. He completed the Specialist surgical register training in SWT region and did a year of research at the Cleveland Clinic in Fl. He then managed to do an ACGME approved colorectal fellowship at the Cleveland Clinic in Florida, USA, in 2002. Following that he completed another year of higher surgical training at the Cleveland Clinic, Fl. After competing his surgical training he joined Worthing Hospital in 2003 as a Consultant Colorectal Surgeon.
During his time in USA he managed to present and publish extensively. He carried on with his passion of research and manages to publish extensively in peer reviewed journals since.
Mr Baig was a college tutor at Worthing Hospital for several years (2005-2016). He was responsible for looking after the surgical trainees and research in the department as well as taking responsibility for the all the college inspections, GMC visits, chairing regular LFG meetings and denary meetings.
He is Clinical Senior Lecturer in Surgery (Hon), since 2007 and is actively involved in teaching BSMS students, MSc students. He was the senior appraiser in the trust from 2019 to 2023.
He has won multiple awards over the years. Mr Baig has published 133 publications in various peer reviewed journals and has also presented and published 297 abstracts. He is the author of 14 book chapters and Syllabi. He has done 9 video presentations and delivered 48 invited lectures. He is faculty of multiple courses and is founding director of the Meta-analysis workshop at UHSussex.
He is member of various surgical societies and is reviewer of various journals including British Journal of Surgery, colorectal disease and Journal of American College of surgeons.
