Introduction
This leaflet is to help you understand Nurse led follow-up clinics for patients that have been or are diagnosed with lung cancer.
You have been referred to the Nurse led clinic because your consultant is satisfied that your condition is stable and that your on-going care can be monitored at the Nurse led clinic. You may have even been referred to see the Nurse Specialist if you or the consultant felt more support is needed
Who runs the Nurse Led Clinic?
The clinic is run by the Macmillan Lung Cancer Nurse Specialists (CNS). They have specialist knowledge and skills in supporting patients, carers and families who are or have been affected by lung cancer.
The CNS works closely with all members of the team involved in your treatment and care (the multidisciplinary team). They will also liaise with community teams including GP’s and Community Nurses to ensure you get the best advice and treatment.
What happens in the nurse led clinic
The Clinics are held in the Sussex Cancer Centre at the Royal Sussex County Hospital (Brighton) or in main outpatient department at The Princess Royal Hospital (Hayward’s Heath).
On arrival to the appointment you will be given a short Holistic Needs assessment form to compete which you will take in with you to see the Nurse Specialist. You may meet a Macmillan Support Worker who can assist you with this.
The appointment can last up to 20 minutes at which you will be assessed and have an opportunity to ask any questions or concerns that you or your family may have. Should you require any further tests or investigations the CNS can help organise this. If deemed necessary, the CNS will liaise directly with the appropriate consultant.
