What is this information about?
As well as the clinical photos the consultant would like you to have today, you can also have a professional portrait photo taken. This is part of a project run by the Royal Sussex County Hospital medical photography team. The portrait photo is offered as a keepsake for you and your family.
It is entirely up to you whether you choose this option. There is no pressure, and it is free of charge.
Before having photographs taken, you will be asked to sign two consent forms. Please read these carefully.
What will happen at the Clinical Media Centre?
When you come to the Clinical Media Centre, you or your child will have their clinical photographs taken first. You can then have the extra portrait if you would like.
Who will take my photo?
Our staff are all professional medical photographers. We follow a strict code of ethics.
If you prefer a photographer of a certain gender, or a chaperone (someone else to be with you while the photos are taken), please ask at reception.
What happens to my photographs?
Photographs taken by the Clinical Media Centre are uploaded to the clinical image database on the hospital’s secure intranet. All photographs taken are digital. They are securely stored in accordance with our records retention policy.
The only people who can access your photographs are those directly supporting your care or acting on your behalf.
Many photographs taken by the Clinical Media Centre are used for teaching doctors, nurses and other medical professionals. In some cases, they are used in media.
You will always be asked for your consent beforehand. You can withdraw your consent at any time.
Can I get copies of the clinical photographs too?
