How we help
If you are unable to travel to your audiology appointment at Worthing Hospital, we can arrange for our team to visit you at home to assess your hearing and fit your hearing aid.
If you are new to our service and require a home visit, please contact your GP for a referral.
If we already see you, and you need a further appointment, please call us to arrange a visit.
Please note that due to high demand for home visits there may be a longer wait for these appointments.
Getting ready for your appointment
Wax check
It is important that your ears are clear of wax when you come for your appointment. Wax may:
- prevent us from performing your hearing assessment
- prevent us from fitting a hearing aid
- cause whistling if we fit a hearing aid
If you are prone to wax build up, please visit your GP or practice nurse to check your ears for wax, before you attend your appointment.
If you, or a member of your family have experienced flu like symptoms or diarrhoea and vomiting please let us know. We cannot visit until you have been clear of symptoms for 48 hours, please phone to cancel your appointment.
What happens at your appointment
Our audiologist will see you, and your appointment will last for up to one hour.
We will take a short medical history and discuss any difficulties you are having with your hearing.
The audiologist will then look in your ears. We will then do a hearing test which will involve wearing some headphones and pressing a button when you hear a sound. We are trying to find the quietest levels that you can hear.
We will explain the results of the test to you during your appointment and we will talk about your management options .
Depending on your results we may then need to take impressions of your ear(s) to make you some earmould(s). We will explain this to you in detail at your appointment.
If you need hearing aid(s) a further visit will be necessary to fit them. We aim to see you again within 4 weeks of your assessment. We will give you further information, so that you know what to expect at your fitting appointment.
We will write to your GP to let them know the results of your hearing test and the outcome of your appointment.
