We understand this is a very difficult and distressing time for families. We are here to support and assist bereaved relatives and carers by helping with the procedures following a death.
We respect families cultural and religious beliefs and our chaplains can contact other faith leaders by request. Our mortuary service will contact you on the first working day following the death of your loved one, to tell you on what happens next.
Worthing Hospital mortuary acts as the head office for our mortuary service. The mortuary is available 24 hours a day for deceased patients from the hospital and the ambulance service. Viewing facilities are available (restricted times).

Worthing Hospital
The post mortem facilities are Worthing Hospital are also used by St Richard’s Hospital, the West Sussex Coroner and for donation purposes.
Worthing mortuary provides a service to the West Sussex Coroner, which includes referred deaths that occur in the community. We are available 24 hours a day to the West Sussex County Council-contracted funeral director.
The mortuary is staffed between the hours of 8.00am and 4.30pm. Please contact the relevant hospital ward or department for assistance outside of these hours.

St Richard’s Hospital
St Richard’s mortuary is available 24 hours a day for deceased patients from the hospital and the ambulance service. Viewing facilities are available (restricted times).
The mortuary is staffed from 9.00 am to 1.00 pm and from 2.00 pm to 4.00 pm. Please contact the relevant hospital ward or department for assistance outside of these hours.
