Dr Dhiraj Joshi is a Consultant Interventional and Diagnostic Radiologist at the Royal Sussex County Hospital, Brighton. He joined University Hospitals Sussex in 2017 following radiology training in Bristol, Brighton and London. He provides a comprehensive diagnostic and interventional radiology service, with expertise in complex vascular and non-vascular image-guided procedures.
Prior to training in radiology, Dr Joshi gained extensive experience in vascular and general surgery. He trained and worked in leading centres including the Royal Free Hospital, Manchester Royal Infirmary, Queen’s Medical Centre Nottingham and Watford General Hospital, developing expertise in vascular surgery, endovascular therapy and complex surgical decision-making. This combined surgical and radiological background enables him to offer a uniquely comprehensive perspective when planning patient care and selecting the most appropriate treatment pathway.
Dr Joshi performs a broad range of interventional radiology procedures including angioplasty and stenting for peripheral arterial disease, venous interventions, endovascular aneurysm repair (EVAR), embolisation for haemorrhage, uterine fibroid embolisation, tumour ablation, complex biliary interventions, nephrostomy, oesophageal, duodenal and colonic stenting, and image-guided biopsies. He also has extensive expertise in cross-sectional imaging, reporting emergency and specialist CT and MRI examinations.
Alongside his clinical practice, Dr Joshi is actively involved in teaching, research and innovation. He regularly teaches radiology trainees and has published widely in both vascular surgery and radiology literature. His research includes a Cochrane Review examining endovascular versus open surgical treatment of popliteal artery aneurysms and laboratory-based vascular biology research undertaken at University College London, for which he was awarded an MD (Research). He has presented nationally and internationally at meetings including CIRSE, BSIR, RSNA and LINC. He also organises a biannual live International peripheral arterial intervention workshop for Vascular specialists.
Dr Joshi is a member of the British Society of Interventional Radiology and the Cardiovascular and Interventional Radiological Society of Europe. He remains committed to delivering safe, evidence-based and patient-centred care while advancing minimally invasive treatment options for patients across Sussex.
