Biography
Dr Pete Basford graduated from St George’s Hospital Medical School In 2001, followed by postgraduate junior medical training in a variety of hospitals in the south of England before working in New Zealand for 15 months.
He commenced higher specialist training in Gastroenterology and General Internal Medicine in the Wessex region in 2008, including undertaking an MD in advanced endoscopic imaging at Portsmouth Hospitals & University of Portsmouth, and achieving my CCT in 2016 and taking up a consultant post at St Richard’s Hospital.
His main areas of interest are in advanced diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopy, including Barrett’s oesophagus and advanced colorectal neoplasia. Pete perform upper and lower GI EMR (endoscopic mucosal resection) procedures, chromoendoscopy and am training in endoscopic submucosal dissection (ESD). He achieved Bowel Cancer Screening colonoscopy accreditation in 2017 and am Lead Colonoscopist for Bowel Cancer Screening in the Western Sussex Centre.
Pete also manage complex Inflammatory Bowel Disease as well as a variety of other Gastroenterological conditions In the outpatient setting.
Alongside clinical work he regularly trains, teaches and supervises junior doctors and other healthcare professionals and am the Endoscopy Training Lead for St Richard’s Hospital.
