Our specialist team treats conditions affecting the oesophagus (swallowing tube), stomach, small bowel, colon, liver, bile ducts and pancreas. We also look after patients with gastrointestinal conditions (disorders of the digestive system) in our combined medical and surgical ward.
How we help
We provide an array of diagnostic and therapeutic techniques including endoscopy (cameras looking into the oesophagus, stomach, colon, small bowel and bile ducts) and radiological (ultrasound, CT scans, MRI scans, barium examinations, which is a test used to examine the digestive tract using a white powder called varium sulphate, which can be seen on x-rays and nuclear medicine scans).
We have a close relationship with our local surgeons, pathology and microbiological colleagues as well as the dietitian department. We also work with many specialist nurses who provide support and advice to patients with chronic conditions including cancer, inflammatory bowel disease, alcohol related disorders and liver disease.
Alongside our local expertise we also enjoy strong relationships with tertiary centres in London, Surrey and Sussex and are happy to facilitate referrals for second opinions or specialist care where required.
