Who are the Macmillan haematology nurse specialists?
Our team of Macmillan Haematology Clinical Nurse Specialists (CNS) also known as Haematology Specialist Nurses, is here to support patients across the four sites of University Hospitals Sussex NHS Foundation Trust:
- Royal Sussex County Hospital
- Princess Royal Hospital
- Worthing Hospital
- St Richard’s Hospital
Each CNS acts as a key worker for specific blood cancer subtypes, which includes Leukaemia /Myeloid Disorders (MDS/MPN), Myeloma/MGUS and Lymphomas.
We provide expert care for all patients with blood disorders across these sites.
What we do
We work closely with Haematology Consultants and the Haematology Multidisciplinary Team (MDT) to:
- Coordinate your care
- Monitor your treatment
- Support your decision-making
- Provide you and your family with tailored information and support
We offer continuity of care in outpatient clinics, treatment day units, and inpatient wards, playing an integral role within the Haematology MDT.
Your key worker
As your key workers, we provide:
- Information about your diagnosis and treatment
- Emotional and financial support
- Signposting to additional resources and community services
We are here to support you and your loved ones throughout your care pathway.
The haematology MDT (Multidisciplinary Team)
Our CNS team collaborates with:
- Consultant haematologists
- Oncologists
- Radiologists
- Pathologists
- Allied Health Professionals
- Tertiary Centres
- Research Nurses and various others, depending on your needs.
The Haematology MDT meets on each Monday morning (except on bank holidays) to review cases, monitor treatment responses, and develop personalised care plans. Our role is to be your advocate at this meeting.
Additional support
Our team includes a Macmillan Support Worker who offers non-medical advice, such as:
- Assistance with appointment coordination
- Referrals to other services
- Liaison with healthcare professionals

We strive to respond on the same day, but sometimes it may take until the next working day.
Please note that this is not an emergency service. If you are feeling unwell or undergoing treatment, refer to the UNWELL CARD given to you.
