Members of our Knowledge and Libraries team recently attended the International Congress on Medical Librarianship (ICML), held in Glasgow14-16 July 2026. The conference brought together medical librarians from around the globe to explore themes of evidence-based practice, innovation and research, providing valuable opportunities to share expertise, present innovative work and learn from colleagues.
Our team made a significant contribution to the event. Rachel and Clare from our KnowledgeShare team presented a poster, showcasing their work and highlighting the impact of knowledge and evidence services within healthcare. Kevin, one of our clinical knowledge specialists, also presented two posters, sharing examples of best practice and innovation from our service.
Neena Shukla Morris facilitated a workshop entitled “Think Like a Teacher: Pedagogical Skills for Librarians.” The session explored how librarians can apply educational principles to improve teaching and training, helping learners engage more effectively with information and evidence resources.
Several team members reflected on the workshop and its practical value and Sarah Rudd also praised the session, describing it as one that “all NHS trainers would benefit from being able to access.” She noted how relevant the recommendations were across the entire training cycle, from initial planning and delivery through to post-session follow-up and evaluation.
Beth Gilchrist commented that “It was reassuring to be reminded that teaching sessions do not always go exactly to plan, and that it is important to be kind to yourself.”
The conference offered an excellent opportunity for our team to showcase their work, exchange ideas with fellow professionals and gain fresh perspectives on teaching and professional practice. We look forward to applying these insights to further enhance the services and support we provide to staff across UH Sussex.
