If you take regular medicine at home you’ll want to bring this with you to hospital for your inpatient stay with us.
Please bring any medication you regularly take with you, this may be:
- prescribed medicine such as tablets, creams or ointments, inhalers, sprays patches
- over the counter medication you take to help with your condition
- vitamins or alternative medicine such as herbal remedies.
By bringing your own medicine there’ll be no delay in prescribing this for you in hospital.
Hand the medication you have brought with you to your nurse and they will make sure this is stored correctly and arrange for you to keep taking your medication.
If you haven’t brought any medication with you and regularly take it then please talk to your nurse who can help arrange for you to have the medicine you need.
If your prescription changes whilst you are in hospital, or new medicine is prescribed, then your doctor will talk to you about this and amend any labels on your old medicine or arrange for it to be disposed.
Medicine when you go home
When you are ready to go home we’ll talk to you about any medication you might need to take including any new prescriptions or changes to existing prescribed medicine. We’ll also make sure your GP knows about any changes to your medication.
Any new medicine you need will be prescribed through our pharmacy.
If you have any questions at all about your prescription or medication then your doctor or the pharmacist will be happy to help.
