A video consultation is an appointment with a member of your medical team using your smartphone, tablet or computer.
A virtual appointment means you won’t need to leave your home. It saves you time and money as you won’t need to travel to the hospital or clinic.
Video calls are carried out with a secure NHS service using a website called Attend Anywhere. It’s free and all you need is a wifi connection. We also recommend you find somewhere private to sit so you won’t be interrupted or overheard if you don’t want to be.
You may be offered a video appointment if you don’t need any physical examination or if it might be better for you to be at home.
A video appointment will run like a face to face appointment. You’ll be able to discuss your condition and treatment with your medical team in the same way.
Contact us if you’d like a face to face appointment instead of a video appointment. The contact details for the service will be on your appointment letter.
How to get started with your video appointment
Your appointment letter will have the time and date of the video appointment and information on how to join. The website we use is called Attend Anywhere and it provides a secure waiting room area to wait for your appointment. You won’t see any other patients.
Allow yourself ten minutes before the appointment to login and join the waiting room.
More information can be seen on our start your video consultation page.
What happens after your appointment
Following your appointment you may be given a prescription, need to come to hospital for tests or see another medical professional in another department. This will all be explained to you.
We may also write to your GP to update them. If you’d like to receive a copy of your clinic letter please ask at reception. If you’re signed up to My Health and Care Record and the department you’re seeing offer this service, then you may view the letter there too.
Your feedback
We value your feedback and want to make our services as good as possible for you.
If you’re unhappy about any aspect of your care you can contact us with your feedback.
We’ll also follow up your appointment with a simple question about your care asking you how likely you are to recommend our service to friends and family if they needed similar care or treatment. Find out more about the Friends and Family test.
