Cloud of Unknowing
Clinicians and managers work in high-pressured areas where there is often too little time to find answers to questions. Knowing there isn’t time to find answers discourages the asking of questions. In a busy clinical day it can be difficult to find the time to read research and assimilate the findings.
Our knowledge specialists make the journey from question to answer as swift and effortless as possible. They are the bridge between evidence and practice.
What is a knowledge specialist
They are skilled evidence searchers, with critical appraisal and reviewing skills. Think of them as ‘information detectives.’ They provide the information you need in the form you need, whether that is a list of references, a single-page synthesis or just a phone call.
Evidence in your workplace
Knowledge specialists are not desk-bound. They will join your meetings, ward rounds, MDTs, groups and projects to act as information ‘conduits,’ recognising and supplying the information your team needs to be effective. We have specialists in acute care, public health, commissioning, and mental health.
Learning information skills
If you need to refresh your skills in how to find or exploit information, ask our knowledge specialists for help. They are experts in the wide-ranging sources of health information, so can help you target your search. They can improve your skills in evaluating research papers, ensuring you only apply the best evidence to practice.
Keeping up to date
Your knowledge specialist can send your regular evidence updates, ensuring you receive relevant news about developments without swamping your inbox.
