The Paediatric Mental Health Liaison team support young people who have come to the children’s emergency department at The Alex children’s hospital and are experiencing a sudden and/or severe mental health crisis.
They can help decide what further support might be needed from other services, make referrals, update any other professionals who are currently supporting you, and support your discharge with a short term discharge care plan.
How we help
After you have been seen by the medical and nursing team and are medically fit they will refer you to the Paediatric Mental Health Liaison team. Depending on the referral we may see you the same day, the following day, or be in touch with your GP or any other professionals to arrange a follow-up appointment with you.
Please note we’re unable to review or prescribe medication, provide behavioural support for violence or aggression, or provide a psychiatric diagnosis.
Where we are
We’re based on Level 9 of the Royal Alexandra Children’s Hospital (The Alex) in Brighton.
