We work closely with the consultant ophthalmologists, optometrists and nurses and are part of a number of multi-disciplinary teams including the Child Development Team and the Stroke Rehabilitation Team.
What happens at your appointment
You may be given an appointment to see an orthoptists a few weeks before your ophthalmology appointment, or you may be seen on the same day.
Our reception desk will check you in and tell you which area to wait in.
Our orthoptist will call you into an examination room when they are ready to see you. The tests are painless and designed to be fun (for children’s tests). Eyes drops are not used. We will ask you about your medical and family history and any previous eye treatments you have had.
The results of the test and treatment options will be discussed with you. We tailor treatment to each individual patient. This may include glasses, patching, exercises or prisms.
Children’s appointments last approximately 20 minutes and adults approximately 40 minutes.
Please bring your glasses with you to your appointment along with your prescription from the optician.
