About the programme
What the training involves
To qualify as a pharmacy technician, you’ll complete a two-year training programme that blends on-the-job experience with academic study.
You’ll be employed as a pre-registration trainee pharmacy technician while working towards a Level 3 or Level 4 apprenticeship.
How you’ll learn
Training is vocational and designed to be flexible. It may be delivered:
- Face-to-face
- Online or at a distance
- As a blended mix of both
You’ll complete a diploma as part of your apprenticeship and receive protected study time during working hours.
Support along the way
You won’t be on your own. You’ll be supported by:
- A dedicated tutor to guide your progress
- Monthly specialist-led sessions covering key skills like consultation, medicines reconciliation, and accuracy checking
- Regular feedback opportunities through sessions led by NHS England
What happens next?
Once you’ve successfully completed the programme, you’ll be eligible to register with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC) and begin working as What the training involves

Training sessions
KSS PTPT sessions for yrs 1&2
- For PTPTs – separate sessions for year 1 and year 2 PTPTs
- KSS PTPT Network training sessions – Monthly training sessions of topics that are selected to support the PTPT learning and meet the GPhC standards
- Second Tuesday each month 13:30-14:45 (on teams)
- To register for these sessions speak to your line manager.
