We are an active member of the cancer division since promoting the growth of palliative care and associated quality improvement and medical education a number of symptom control trials, encouraged fellows to publish clinical and other data while also collaborating with larger centres on grants and national trials and a continued interest in patient reported outcome measures FIX IT prize winner 2023: My Clinical Outcomes (MCO) (rcp.ac.uk) and are linked to the new Sussex cancer research collaborative.
We have been supported by local charities, Research for patient benefit funding and Macmillan cancer support and have links to the national centres in London at University college Marie Curie Palliative Care Research Department | Psychiatry – UCL – University College London and Kings Cicely Saunders Institute | Cicely Saunders Institute of Palliative Care, Policy & Rehabilitation | King’s College London (kcl.ac.uk)
We believe in the integration of palliative care in both undergraduate and post graduate training and regularly support teach and mentor students and junior doctors to develop the full range of tools in communication and recognition of the end of life and have published in this area to support the evidence base including learning from deaths. We now have a senior lecturer in palliative care to support this Dr Geoffrey Wells – BSMS.
