The DSN supports and empowers those covered under the Equality Act 2010 – by providing regular meet ups, newsletters and providing support and advice.
We hold monthly meetings to provide staff with a safe space to discuss common issues or concerns in relation to disability in the workplace and an opportunity to share their experiences and any resources or information that have helped them. It’s also an opportunity to meet and collaborate with others to offer ideas on what services the Trust could provide to staff with disabilities and an opportunity to feed any suggestions to the Equality, Diversity and Inclusion team for consideration.

Disability awareness conference
The UHSussex Disability Awareness Conference 2024 took place on Friday 1 March on Level 11 of the LMB. There were two identical sessions – one in the morning and one in the afternoon. The UHSussex Disabled Staff Network organised this event and the event was made possible by a grant from the My University Hospital charity and support from the DSN Executive Sponsor, David Grantham, Chief People’s Officer for the Trust.
The event had stalls from many diverse groups both from within the Trust and outside community representatives. Attendees were particularly interested to see what inclusivity can mean by the presence of Speak Out, UNISON, Carers Centre for Brighton & Hove, and the Voluntary Services brought along Meg the PAT dog.
The Conference was very well attended with some great feedback from attendees and guests and the DSN are thrilled that so many people gained so much from the day.
The resources from the conference is available to access on the intranet.
Neurodiversity
Neurodiversity acknowledges that each person’s brain is unique. Our brains work and interpret information differently and we all bring individual experience, strengths, and assets to a situation.
Please find a useful resource for staff who are neurodiverse and for the managers and employers who support them.
