This course is a basic introduction to some concepts relating to transgender and non-binary (TNB) people. This course will enable and empower staff to feel more confident in engaging with TNB patients and colleagues.
By completing this training, you will increase your knowledge and understanding of:
- The definitions most commonly used when discussing transgender-related topics;
- Pronouns – what they are, who uses them, why they are important, how to ask for someone’s pronouns, and how to respond if you or someone else makes a mistake;
- Difficulties and inequalities most commonly faced by transgender people;
- How to respond if you witness discrimination towards transgender people (transphobia).
Please be aware that the course covers topics that some people may find distressing, upsetting, or uncomfortable. Please refer to the Resources section for signposting to relevant organisations and services if you require support.
The Iris course page for this training contains useful resources if you would like to continue your learning. Don’t forget to complete your post-training knowledge check to compare with your pre-training answers. You will need to complete these, and the session feedback, in order to access your attendance certificate.
