Urine normally drains from the kidneys into the bladder through a narrow tube (ureter). The ureter can become blocked, stopping the urine draining into the bladder. In this case a nephrostomy may need to be inserted.
This is a drainage tube which is directly placed into the kidney through the skin. This tube is placed if there is a blockage in the ureter (tube from the kidney to the bladder).
